Detailed description of Washtenaw Country Club

Washtenaw Country Club is a Semi-Private 18 holes golf course located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The course is open for public play.

Washtenaw Country Club first opened for play in 1899.

The course was built on rolling terrain. It now has mature oak trees lining its fairways. Water hazards (ponds and rivers) come into play on a number of holes. A beautiful orchard on the course adds to the scenic beauty.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,564 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,415 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 580 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 155 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 2, a 425-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 18, a 368 yard par-4.

Getting a chance to play a 123 year old challenging course with a rich history of being a Country Club, had me wasting no time to get that $40 Spring/Fall rate. (Worth every $) Even though Fall has unleashed it's colors/leaves, the fairways, rough and greens were leaf free and rolling like it was mid-summer. Even though it rained last night and early this morning, fairways were not restricting my carry with greens holding/rolling at a easy 10. This tree lined and rolling layout offered many challenges (4 tees) from the Blues @ 6,572yd / 72.3 / 137 down to the Reds @ 4,665yd / 63.5 / 116 on this Par 36/36 layout. I decided to play the Whites @ 3,114 / 3,091yds / 70.7 / 134 and could see playing the Gold tees (5,552yds) on four (4) holes (2,5,6,17) next time for a yardage of 6,012yds as those Senior tees were a little too short for me. This course has no shortage on well poistioned and conditioned sand traps in the fairway and green-side alike. Front 9 is wasted no time getting to the Hcp 1 hole on #2 a 425yd uphill Par 4 with the toughest hill top green that looked like two (2) potato chips laying side-by-side. A center pin placement would allow a 6' round landing area before rejecting everything else to the corners. The #4 is a narrow tree lined fairway with also two (2) sand traps on your 511yd Par 5 journey to this elevated and LH trap protected green. The #4 a 172yd Par 3 is a very steep 360 degree elevated green with two (2) front traps, so it's green or bust. The #6 is a long 580yd Par 5 Hcp 3 that has trees crowding the fairway at 200-420yds (O.B. left) out from the White tees so stay in the fairway at all cost. The #7 at 348yds has 215yd tee needed to the LH side of the fairway corner so you can view the green with the creek crossing at the front. The #8 Par 4 is short at 322yds but the 30' elevated blind green is hidden behind the LH corner tall tree with a very steep front so fairway right of the tree leaves a safe 120-140yd shot. The #9 is a downhill 200yd Par 3 with traps guarding the front of the green. The Back 9 starts out with #10 being a uphill 540yd Par 5 with a double tipped fairway complete with a hidden swamp to the right front of the elevated green, so miss left. The #13 at 542yds is a Hcp 2 that is tree tight with fairway/greenside front traps and water on the LH side, with short grass the only safe place. The #15 Par 4 at 373yds is a slight dogleg right with a trap 200yds out on the LH corner so a 200yd tee is safe and a 220-240yd cut tee shot perfect. The #18 is a 368yd Par 4 dogleg left that has a 200yd draw down the middle, right of the inside tree, will run downhill short of the pond leaving a 100-110yd shot to the tipped right green. This was one great Public course that you have to put on your list if traveling in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. Ended up shooting 39/40 w/32putts as my driver was finding these narrow fairways all day........which helped ALOT. I will be bringing my travel golf buds back here next Spring......for sure.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
